Under New Management: BSCAI to Hold Annual Show in New Hometown
Chicago

The Building
Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI), a
2,000-member association of providers of cleaning and facility
maintenance services, is making final arrangements for its annual
trade show to be held in its new hometown of Chicago in April.
The show will be the first under the new management of
SmithBucklin, which it designated as its full-service
management company, relocating from Fairfax, VA to
SmithBucklin’s offices in Chicago in January.
The association has a new president, too. 2006 president Donald
L. Pottieger, Sr., CBSE, passed the gavel to John S. Ezzo in
January. Ezzo is president and CEO of New Image Building
Services, Inc., a full-ser-vice, commercial cleaning company
that serves Metro Detroit, Greater Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo,
and Las Vegas with annual sales exceeding $15 million.
New Image, awarded as a Building Owners and Managers Association
Supplier of the Year, has serviced seven past TOBY Award Winning
Buildings, and is a four-time recipient of the BSCAI Safety
Award. Ezzo also owns The Maids Home Services residential
franchise and Metro Steam Cleaning, both based in Troy,
Michigan.
“I am confident that SmithBucklin’s people, their unparalleled
expertise, and their breadth of resources will help us expand
our reach and allow us to provide best-in-class services to our
members,” said Don Pottieger. “This partnership, coupled with
John’s keen leadership and extensive understanding of our
industry, will undoubtedly take our organization to the next
level.”
One of SmithBucklin’s immediate priorities is BSCAI’S Annual
Convention & Trade Show, to be held April 13-17, 2007 in
Chicago. The show will be keynoted by Chris Gardner, president
and CEO of Gardner Rich & Co., a multi-million-dollar
brokerage firm. The amazing story of Gardner’s life was
published as an autobiography, “The Pursuit of Happiness,” and
is the inspiration for a movie of the same title released by
Columbia Pictures. The convention will also include meetings of
the Government Affairs Committee, which will consider BSCs’
continued struggles against illegal subcontracting. With a
growing number of immigration crackdowns, and union pressure
continuing to mount on the industry, it’s an issue affecting
BSCAI members.
“In today’s highly competitive business environment it is
imperative that all stakeholders in our industry understand how
government legislation and regulations impact our livelihoods,”
said Mark Klein, senior vice-resident, Sunshine Cleaning
Systems, Inc. and BSCAI Government Affairs chairman. “The
Building Service Contractors Association along with the
Government Affairs Committee looks to influence positive
legislation and educate officials in the House and Senate of the
issues we face. In turn we must educate our client base on how
new legislation impacts their operations. With a strong
government affairs team and the support of each and every
member of the BSCAI we can and will make a difference.” ❑
