ABCO Cleaning Products Commits to Sustainability with AASHE

MIAMI -- ABCO Cleaning Products, a provider of sustainable cleaning tools, has joined the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), an association of colleges, universities, businesses, nonprofits and other organizations working together to create a sustainable world.

Through its membership in AASHE, ABCO will be able to better understand and assist higher education institutions in advancing their sustainability initiatives.

“We are excited to join an organization that can help promote our goals to reduce the manufacturing impact on the environment, communities and employees,” said Carlos Albir, president, ABCO. “Our recent Green Seal Certification award for Natura Yarn mop heads and dust mops, along with our new partnership with AASHEE and its members, allow us to push forward on our mission to raise awareness, educate on sustainable solutions and positively impact our environment.”

ABCO’s range of cleaning tools include Natura Yarn mop heads, which are made from 100% post-industrial textile waste from the apparel industry, resulting in significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and soil and water contamination.

Using recycled textile waste also helps establish a circular supply chain with garment manufacturers. In addition, ABCO’s Natura Yarn brooms and brushes are manufactured from 100% recycled plastic bottles and caps, and the company also utilizes power from solar panels to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

AASHE helps colleges and universities meet their sustainability goals by providing specialized resources, professional development and a network for sharing information about sustainability products and services.

Among AASHE’s major programs is the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. STARS is intended to engage and recognize the full spectrum of colleges and universities - from community colleges to research universities - and encompasses long-term sustainability goals for already high-achieving institutions as well as entry points of recognition for institutions that are taking first steps toward sustainability.
