LUTZ, FL -- Experts from Roof Hugger and McElroy Metal will present “Retrofit with Metal Systems” on the opening and last days of the International Roofing Expo in Las Vegas next month.

D.J. Highnote of Roof Hugger and Charlie Smith of McElroy Metal will discuss different methods of retrofitting a roof with metal on the IRE show floor at 3 p.m., Feb. 6 and Feb 8.

The 45-minute interactive presentation, which is included in the price of the Expo Pass, will discuss re-covering failing low-slope metal roofs with new metal systems.

It’s one of seven Metal Construction Association “Building Clinics” focused on metal roofing to be conducted on the show floor during the three-day event.

Roof Hugger will be exhibiting at the show along with Logan Stampings in booth number 7246, while McElroy Metal will be in booth 6735.

Roof Hugger’s notched sub-purlins enable replacement of new metal roof panels over an old metal roof.
They can be used over screw-down or standing seam roof systems and can accommodate new standing seam or screw-down panels.

Since 1963, McElroy Metal has served the construction industry with quality products and excellent customer service. The employee-owned components manufacturer is headquartered in Bossier City, La., and has 14 manufacturing facilities across the United States.

Born into the metal construction industry, with a grandfather that was a metal building contractor-developer and a father who was a 20-plus-year district manager for Varco Pruden, D.J. Highnote’s career started at a young age in the field erecting pre-engineered steel buildings.

He spent many years traveling around the country as well as in the Caribbean, constructing everything from shopping centers, structures for oil refineries and numerous metal-over-metal retrofits. D.J. holds a Florida class “A” General Contractor’s License. His career with Roof Hugger began in 2013 as an estimator and he has since risen to become their Executive Vice President in charge of all operations. He has contributed to directing product research, testing and the design of multiple patents for their products.

Charlie Smith’s efforts have made him one of the industry’s foremost authorities on recover systems utilizing metal roofing. He holds several patents in the recover and panel design fields. Charlie co-wrote the two-day IIBEC (RCI) Metal Roofing course and is a frequent presenter at IIBEC and other roofing industry events. In 2018, he was presented the “Outstanding Educator Award” from RCI in recognition of continuous delivery of exceptional educational courses.
