PORCARI, IT -- The Sofidel Group, a producer of paper for hygienic and domestic use, has once again been recognized for its commitment to fighting climate change and deforestation.

The Group positioned itself in the Leadership range of CDP's two ratings ,Climate Change 2023 and Forests 2023.

For both ratings, Sofidel obtained an A- score, positioning itself above the European average (B, in the case of climate, and C for forestry management) and above that of the sector (B for both ratings ) .

“It is an important result for Sofidel.,” said Riccardo Balducci, Group Sustainability Director. “The timely measurement of environmental performance, carried out by third-party and independent bodies such as CDP, is a key element of our Group's sustainability path. A journey that we are facing with courage and determination. Regarding climate change we are now working on the Net Zero objective by 2050, while we continue our responsible cellulose sourcing policy and our commitment towards the Zero Deforestation objective.”

Sofidel has recently intensified its ecological transition policies, committing to Science Based Targets (SBTi) to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The Net Zero objective, i.e. the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the consequent removal of residual emissions to the closest possible point to zero along the entire value chain, is at the center of the European Green Deal and considered crucial to limit global warming well below 2°C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement .

In terms of the fight against deforestation, 100% of the supply of raw materials of forest origin used by the Group comes from suppliers certified according to rigorous environmental, social and economic standards guaranteed by independent third parties (FSC, FSCControlled Wood, PEFCTM) .

Sofidel is also among the first companies to have taken part in the multi-stakeholder initiative "Forests Forward" launched by WWF at an international level to consolidate the forestry procurement policy, strengthening the supplier involvement program to help fight deforestation, conserve ecosystems and protect the rights of local communities.
