MALVERN, PA -- Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, a developer of infrastructure for colleges and universities, has announced that The Broadview at Vanderbilt has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the USGBC.
This significant achievement reflects Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions’ ongoing commitment to development projects that prioritize sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
“We are very pleased to achieve LEED Gold Certification for The Broadview at Vanderbilt,” said Bob Shepko, President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “This designation is a testament to our commitment to working with our clients and partners to develop innovative and responsible student communities through sustainable building practices.”
The Broadview at Vanderbilt, a modern student apartment community that opened in 2023, was developed through a public-private partnership (P3) with Vanderbilt University and Axium Infrastructure.
The construction was led by JE Dunn Construction with Valerio Dewalt Train, a Chicago-based architecture firm, serving as the lead architect.
The project team adopted several strategies to achieve LEED Gold Certification for the 616-bed facility, including rooftop solar, enhanced indoor air quality, thermal comfort, maximized daylight and views, as well as energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, water-conserving irrigation systems and high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, and Energy Star-certified appliances.
As a result, the building has energy cost savings of over 12 percent compared to similar sites.
The project deployed sustainable construction practices, including pollution prevention and waste management, resulting in over 50 percent of construction waste being diverted from landfills. Additionally, the site location has access to multiple transit options and is within walking distance of numerous amenities, reducing vehicle usage and promoting a healthier lifestyle for residents.
