ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis-based 4M Building Solutions, a commercial cleaning and janitorial services business, has announced the promotions of two members of its executive leadership team.
Michael Fitts was promoted from executive vice president to the newly created post of chief commercial officer, and Dan Cline was promoted to chief operating officer from the role of executive vice president.
Steve Crain, who formerly held the COO role, remains in his leadership position as 4M president.
“Promoting Michael Fitts to CCO and Dan Cline to COO marks a pivotal moment in 4M’s continued growth and commitment to excellence,” said Tim Murch, CBSE, 4M’s CEO and managing partner.
Fitts joined 4M in 2017. As an executive vice president, a role he assumed in 2021, he oversaw the Gateway Division, a portfolio of accounts spanning multiple states and representing half of the company's business, and the Healthcare Division in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
A retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel with 24 years of service and Middle East deployments, Michael holds a master’s in management (finance) and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
In his new role as CCO, Fitts will lead the company's commercial strategies, focusing on driving revenue growth and strengthening customer relationships. His oversight will include marketing, corporate sales, and safety departments. Additionally, he will champion innovation, enhance customer satisfaction and retention, manage independent contractor relationships, and ensure effective training and alignment across regions and teams.
Cline, a seasoned executive with 31 years of leadership in the building services industry, joined 4M Building Solutions in 2001 after selling his Kansas City-based janitorial business to the company. As executive vice president, he oversaw operations across 4M's Midwest and Southeast divisions and garnered consistent recognition for service excellence, performance, and safety.
As COO, he will oversee 4M’s four divisions, encompassing 27 states, and the Operational Support Teams (OST), and lead client relationships with 4M’s vendor and distribution partners. Focused on growth and performance, Cline will implement initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational excellence across the company’s expansive footprint.
“Michael and Dan exemplify our dedication to promoting from within, ensuring leadership is entrusted to those who genuinely understand our culture and this industry,” said Murch. “Mike’s strategic vision and proven leadership will strengthen our market position. Dan’s operational expertise and commitment to fostering growth and innovation will ensure we deliver exceptional service across our company. Both are tremendous leaders with a proven ability to motivate and encourage Team Members to reach their full potential.”
