Contributed by BSM Staff

SOUTH BEND, IN – ‘Dignity of Work’ is the title of a new mural recently dedicated at the McNeill Gallery in Geddes Hall on the campus of Notre Dame University.

The mural is part of an exhibit and a collaboration between staff members in the Building Services department and students in the Institute for Social Concerns’ Art and Social Change course.

The exhibit is part of the 10th annual campus-wide observance of Walk the Walk Week, a series of university, department, and student-sponsored events designed to consider how to take an active role in making Notre Dame more welcoming and inclusive.

Staff and students engaged in Photovoice, a participatory research methodology, and the exhibit features stories of Building Services staff as told by the staff members themselves.

Accompanying the Photovoice exhibit is the Institute for Social Concerns’ Dignity of Work mural, painted by local artists David Martin and Jason Haney.

It depicts the many contributions of Building Services employees over the decades. In the spirit of Walk the Walk Week, the exhibit aims to celebrate and amplify the diverse voices of Building Services staff and honor their service and labor.

The weeklong event was held January 26 to Feb. 1, 2025.
