A panel of HVACR industry representatives, including AHRI Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Samantha Slater, AHRI Senior Director of Codes Tom Deary, and Founder and President of Glencoe Strategies LLC Scott Stone, will discuss the latest information about the transition to low-global warming potential (GWP), or A2L, refrigerants, covering:
• The status of American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act implementation
• State legislative and regulatory activity on refrigerants and refrigerant management
• State building code updates for A2L refrigerants
The Regulatory Report: What You Need to Know in 2026, Monday, February 2, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., Room S219. The Trump Administration’s fast-paced deregulatory agenda is greatly impacting the HVACR and water heating industry. Join AHRI staff to discuss the latest regulatory activity at the federal and state levels.
This session will cover:
• Policies related to energy efficiency, chemicals, plastics and packaging, and more
• The latest on building codes
Environmental Product Declarations: What They Are and Why They Matter, Monday, February 2, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Room S219. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are increasingly being used to inform sustainable design and purchasing decisions. This session will cover EPD fundamentals with a focus on HVACR and water heating equipment. Attendees will learn about:
• EPD benefits, applications, and types
• How to interpret the data provided
• How EPDs are created
• What AHRI is doing to standardize the development process and support the industry’s need for verified product information.
Preparing the Workforce for the Future of the Trades: Monday, February 2, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Room S231, Hosted by North American Technician Excellence (NATE). As the HVAC industry evolves, so must our approach to building and developing high-performing teams.
This session explores how education, technology, and credentials such as NATE certification are helping to build stronger teams. Learn how ongoing training drives technician productivity, boosts retention, and prepares the workforce for the industry’s future.
Decarbonizing Commercial Heating with Hydrogen: Boilers, Water Heaters & HVAC, Tuesday, February 3, 11:30 to 12:30, Room S221. Presented by AHRI & GTI Energy, this session will cover:
• How researchers are experimentally defining the upper limit of using hydrogen to decarbonize large commercial and industrial gas-fired heating equipment
• The test methods and results used by GTI Energy and UC Irvine to test multiple boilers, water heaters, furnaces, and other equipment
• Impacts on heating capacity, efficiency, NOx/CO emissions, CH4/H2 slip emissions, operational safety, and other considerations
• Parallel methods and results regarding common materials of construction and the impacts of being exposed to a hydrogen combustion environment
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is the trade association representing manufacturers of air conditioning, heating, commercial refrigeration, and water heating equipment. An internationally recognized advocate for the industry, AHRI develops standards for and certifies the performance of many of these products.
