MUNICH -- Siemens is expanding its data center portfolio through a strategic investment and exclusive partnership with Skeleton Technologies, a developer of high-power energy storage systems, specializing in supercapacitors to manage transient power spikes and peak shaving solutions.

The partnership strengthens Siemens’ position in the fast-growing data centers space by adding high-performance supercapacitor technology to its electrical infrastructure portfolio.

As a leading technology company, Siemens supports customers across the entire data center ecosystem from the utility connection to the white space and is a trusted partner relied upon by nine of the top ten global data center providers.

Siemens has been supporting Skeleton Technologies as a technology partner since 2022 and has also been involved as an investor since 2023. With this, Siemens is continuously strengthening its role in the AI infrastructure ecosystem.

“Skeleton's portfolio perfectly complements Siemens' comprehensive data center offering,” said Markus Grabmeier, President of Electrical Products at Siemens AG. “Our combined innovation roadmap will deliver benchmark solutions for the white space of next-generation data centers, delivered by a strong manufacturing network across Europe and the USA.”

The new offering addresses a central constraint on the expansion of data centers: massive, rapid and recurring swings in electricity demand. AI workloads synchronize thousands of powerful chips, whose power demand can rise or fall within milliseconds and aggregate into swings at megawatt scale in seconds.

Skeleton’s supercapacitors solve this industry challenge by acting as an electrical shock absorber, absorbing these rapid power swings, protecting valuable equipment and the grid while helping operators increase compute density and limiting the need for costly and time-consuming upgrades to existing facilities.

The offering is aimed at the expansive ecosystem, building out hyperscale data centers and AI Factories. It is designed to enable higher-density AI deployments, reduce utility-side power disturbances and accelerate the deployment of new capacity without a complete facility redesign.

The solution can be deployed in existing AC architectures and retrofit projects, while providing a pathway toward future 800V DC standards.

“The race to scale AI is increasingly becoming a race for power,” said Peter Koerte, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and President Smart Infrastructure. “Data center operators need ways to expand capacity faster without waiting years for new grid and facility infrastructure. Our strategic investment in Skeleton addresses exactly this challenge. By combining Siemens’ electrical infrastructure expertise with Skeleton’s breakthrough supercapacitor technology, we can help customers unlock more AI capacity, improve resilience and accelerate growth in a rapidly expanding market.”

Taavi Madiberk, CEO and co-founder of Skeleton Technologies, said. “Our partnership with Siemens brings together Skeleton’s innovation and Siemens’ global industrial scale to accelerate the deployment of AI infrastructure, unlock more computing power and improve energy efficiency. This winning combination gives us the strongest value proposition in the AI power infrastructure market, and we plan to become the world’s largest provider of white-space power systems for AI data centers,”

The transactions will be completed following the fulfilment of customary completion formalities.
